Bradford Optimo™ sub-floor insulation has been specifically developed to increase the comfort, energy efficiency and safety of homes that are being constructed with suspended timber floors.
Manufactured from rockwool, Optimo™ is a rigid high density insulation, with custom designed fixings, to enable installation in both newly constructed homes and existing dwellings.
Thermal comfort
Homes with well insulated ceilings and walls could still be losing between as much as 15%-20% of their heating and cooling energy use through the floor, costing homeowners money and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Designed to fit snugly between the joists under suspended timber floors, and supported with custom designed plastic saddles, Optimo™ is a simple to install solution to help reduce heat and noise transfer through floors.
A safe & quiet home
Rockwool has long been regarded by architects and builders as the industry standard for acoustic insulation, making Optimo™ an excellent sound absorber. In fact, installing Bradford Optimo™ can reduce sound transmission through the floor by up to 6dB. A 3dB reduction in sound transmission is recognised as delivering a significant reduction in audible noise within the home.
Rockwool is the most popular insulation for fire protection in buildings. It doesn’t burn or contribute to the spread of flame, which could save vital minutes in the event of a fire.

The Optimo™ saddles are recommended to be used when installing Optimo™ sub-floor insulation in a newly constructed sub-floor, before the flooring is installed. The saddles are available in boxes of 100 and 250 pieces.
With fixing for straps and saddles recommended every 500mm along the joist, you will require, as a guide, for a 100m2 house, either:
- 440 straps or saddles with 450 centre joist spacing’s
- 334 straps or saddles with 600 centre joist spacing’s
Houses with suspended timber floors can suffer from poor sub-floor air circulation. Stale or damp sub-floor air can encourage termites and mould and fungal growth, which trigger allergies and respiratory problems. To improve the sub-floor air quality and reduce humidity levels beneath the floor, Edmonds have developed the ecoFAN.
